This 4,400 sf new bank facility is one of the first 5 banking centers in the country to be part of the LEED Construction Verification Program. This project received Silver LEED certification and was amongst 2 LEED certified locations nationwide, including Chicago, to first open as the new Bank of America prototype.
Sustainability Narrative
All materials used are Green Certified (more than 25% post-consumer recycled content) and low VOC's (volatile, organic compound) including recycled carpet flooring, paint, adhesives, caulking, wood and drywall. 50% of the wood used is derived from FSC certified wood (Forest Stewardship Council).
The roof of the building is all white to assist in deflecting summer heat and includes a solar reflectance index above 78. The Instant Hot feature is used in all the restrooms and staff kitchen; as opposed to a hot water heater, water is heated instantly electrically conserving heating energy. All faucets and toilets maintain a low flow rate. Daylight sensors are used in each room; as more daylight enters the building, indoor lights automatically dim accordingly. Occupancy sensors are also used in each room.
Results
This project included a Construction Waste Management goal to divert 50% of the recycled materials including demolition. That goal was exceed by 29% (89% total); as a result, the project was awarded 1 additional LEED point.
The new facility is located in close proximity to public transportation. Bike racks were installed to encourage bicycle access and two parking spots reserved for hybrid, energy efficient cars were installed. Indigenous plants were used in the landscaping to encourage water conservation.
An extensive commissioning program was implemented to verify energy consumption. 3 LEED points were awarded for the commissioning program.
